Experience an 8.0 Magnitude Earthquake: Ride the ShakeZone Mobile Simulator


Beginning next week, you'll have a chance to to experience what an 8.0 magnitude earthquake feels like by taking a free ride in the ShakeZone mobile earthquake simulator.

Victoria Red Cross Emergency Support Services will be joined by ShakeOutBC and the Victoria Fire Department to share educational information on emergency preparedness. 

The City of Victoria has partnered with the Greater Victoria School District to align classroom education about plate tectonics and earthquakes with a realistic earthquake simulation to enhance the learning experience for grade 8 students at Central Middle School and Victoria High School students. 

The ShakeZone mobile earthquake simulator will be visiting the Capital Region on the following days: 

Tuesday, September 17, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Legislative Assembly of BC, 501 Belleville Street
Wednesday, September 18, 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., University of Victoria, 3800 Finnerty Road
Thursday, September 19, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m., Canex at CFB Esquimalt, 1343 Woodway Road
Thursday, September 19, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., Central Middle School, 1280 Fort Street 
Friday, September 20, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., Sidney Community Safety Building, 2245 Oakville Avenue 
Saturday, September 21, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saanich Fire Hall #1, 760 Vernon Avenue
