In the Capital Region, six municipalities use a notification service to inform the public in the event of an emergency.

Those interested in signing up to these receive alerts can visit the following websites:

Victoria:

Central Saanich:

There is also a notification system for those living in remote parts of the CRD:

Salt Spring Island:

Piers Island:

The remaining municipalites do not use notification services, but some are looking into it.

View Royal hopes to have some form of mass notification system in place in the future, preferably by the end of this year, and is coordinating with neighbouring Colwood in this pursuit.

Sooke and Oak Bay have also been investigating the possibilities of using a similar system.

Officials in Victoria say nearly 28-thousand people have signed up to receive Vic-Alerts in the 12 hours that followed the tsunami warning.
