It's National Volunteer Week: Nominations now open for awards

This is National Volunteer Week. More than 15,000 volunteers share their time and skills to help others across Canada -- every day.

The federal government wants to know about the benevolent hearts in your community for this year's Canada's Volunteer Awards.

There are a number of categories, including one national award and 20 regional awards.

Regional award recipients will be able to "pay it forward" by choosing a not-for-profit organization to receive a $5,000 grant.

The national award recipient will be able to donate $10,000 to a charity. All awards will be presented during a ceremony next April.
