Nanaimo RCMP took a big bite out of crime last week, when they stopped a man riding a bicycle without a helmet.

The Bike Patrol initially stopped a 19-year-old cyclist near Barsby Park on Friday March 15 for a 'No Lid' infraction. Then sharp-eyed officers noticed the bike he was riding, was recently reported stolen.

He was arrested and taken to the local detachment. At that point, RCMP discovered the man is Kyle Antonio Dias of Etobicoke, Ontario. Dias is wanted for second degree murder in connection with a shooting in Toronto on February 13.

Toronto Police are flying to Nanaimo to escort the man back to Ontario on Wednesday.

The bike helmet charge was not pursued by the arresting officers, however the stolen bike was returned to its rightful owner.
