Port Alberni mourns death of former mayor

A longtime former mayor of Port Alberni died on Friday.

Gillian Trumper had been in failing health for some time. She died following complications from renal failure.

Trumper is being remembered as a woman who broke through barriers during her 20 year career in politics.

Besides serving as mayor,  she was a Liberal MLA, and was the coroner. She was also the first female to receive the honour of Freeman of the City.

Trumper was 83.
