Beastie Boys, Ramones, Hendrix top list of best debut albums

Rolling Stone Magazine has compiled a list of the 100 greatest debut albums of all time. The music publication claims the idea for the list was inspired by The Beatles' venerated 1963 album, Please Please Me.

In terms of curation, Rolling Stone had some rather vague criteria:

"Albums got docked points if the artist went on to far greater achievements [...] conversely, we gave a little extra recognition to great debut albums that the artist never matched [...]. We also skipped solo debuts by artists who were already in well-known bands [...]. We focused, instead, on debuts that gave you the thrill of an act arriving fully-formed, ready to reinvent the world in its own image."

The final list ended up being fairly inclusive and spans various genres and eras.

Here are the albums that cracked the top 20:

  1. Beastie Boys: Licensed to Ill (1986)
  2. The Ramones: "The Ramones (1976)
