Montreal Metal Singers Find Work In Video Games

Those grunts, growls and sinister sounds in video games like Assassin’s Creed, Resident Evil 7 and Prince of Persia could be coming from Montreal heavy metal singers.

According to Broadcast Dialogue, 16 metal singers make up The Monster Factory, which supplies voice talent to the major gaming developers in the city as well as for TV and film productions.

Among them are Sébastien Croteau of Necrotic Mutation, Marie-Hélène Landry of Obsolete Mankind, Corinne Cardinal of Valfreya, Simon Girard of Beyond Creation and François Toutée of Hybreed Chaos.

Business is booming.

“Usually as a metal artist maybe we can sell 5,000 or 10,000 records when we get one out, but now millions have heard our voices and they don’t know who we are,” Croteau, co-founder of The Monster Factory, told reporter Connie Thiessen. “Having millions listen to what you did and not know that we’re metal singers, for me it’s like revenge of the metalheads.”

Last week, The Monster Factory released Horde, a behind-the-scenes look at the voice talent required to simulate a zombie attack on a woman. Check it out below:
