Earlier this week it was announced that this year's edition of POP Montreal will indeed go ahead albeit with some changes.

The festival's Creative Director, Dan Seligman admits, "Yes Covid-19 sucks! But we are adapting and figuring it all out in a safe and responsible way." He goes on to reveal that this year's festival will have a very local flavour. "This will be a very local edition of the festival with some of the best music coming out of our part of the world right now. There will be fewer shows in socially distanced venues and outdoor locations, and most of the shows will be streamed and available via our website for those who cannot attend in person."

Streaming will be made available through POP's Funhouse 2.0 website which will also include a virtual replica of the festival's flasgship venue, Parc Avenue's Rialto Theatre. In-person shows will have limited capacity and will be spread across the Rialto Theatre, URSA, and Le Ministère.

Acts announced so far include local indie rock darlings Plants & Animals and Land of Talk, French folk-rocker Antoine Corriveau, the classically-inspired Flore Laurentienne, jazz-pop infused Thanya Iyer, latin cumbia artist Lido Pimienta, metal-rap act Backxwash, and more.

Organizers have also announced that Art POP (visual arts component), POP Symposium (panel discussions, workshops, networking events), Film POP (music-related films and documentaries), and Puces POP (artist flea market) will run as scheduled with extra precautions in place.

This year's edition of POP Montreal will run from September 23-27, 2020. In order to provide a safe environment for those attending in-person events, organizers have made face masks, advance ticket purchasing, registration, hand-washing, 2-metre distancing, and seating mandatory. Full schedule and tickets can be found at POPMontreal.com.
