SWMRS Guitarist, Crew Members Injured In Crash
SWMRS, the punk band that counts Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s 24-year-old son Joey Armstrong among its members, has cancelled its remaining shows this year following an accident.
A van carrying singer-guitarist Max Becker, sound engineer Josh Berl and photographer Natalie Somekh reportedly hit a patch of black ice on a highway from Oakland to Denver and went off the road.
“Thankfully, first responders were able to quickly get them to an incredible team of doctors in the intensive care unit at a hospital in Wyoming, and everyone is going to be ok,” read a tweet late Tuesday.
Details of the injuries were not disclosed but, according to SWMRS, Becker faces “a long road to recovery.” A follow-up tweet said Berl was scheduled “to have surgery on a broken arm and get some stitches.”
SWMRS also consists of Cole Becker and Seb Mueller.
Armstrong’s rock star father took to Instagram late Tuesday to say he’s “sending all my love and positive everything to the band.” Billie Joe added: “I love you kids.”
SWMRS, which released its fourth album Berkeley's on Fire earlier this year, is scheduled to do a UK tour next February.
