Taylor Swift Named World's Best Solo Act At NME Awards

Taylor Swift showed up at the NME Awards in London on Wednesday to pick up the award for Best Solo Act in the World.

The British music outlet has presented awards in a variety of categories since 1953. The offbeat show’s current trophy is in the shape of a hand giving the middle finger.

Swift recalled winning her first NME Award in 2016. “I put it in my kitchen, and every single morning when I go down, I wake up and I’ve just got this right in my face,” she said. “Just like a full middle finger in my face putting me in my place, like, ‘Good morning!’. So it’s amazing to have a matching set.”

The pop star thanked “anyone who writes about music, who blogs about music, who tweets about music, who cares about music… and most of all, I want to say thank you to the fans because you’re the only reason that we get to do this.”

Swift was presented with her award by Robyn, the recipient of this year’s Songwriter of the Decade honour.

Other winners included Courtney Love (Icon Award), The 1975 (Innovation Award, Best British Band), Slipknot (Best Band in the World), Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” (Best Song in the World) and BTS for their Wembley Stadium concert (Music Moment of the Year).
