Vanilla Ice, Colour Me Badd Doing Shows This Weekend

A pair of throwback acts – Vanilla Ice and Color Me Badd – are set to perform concerts this weekend in Texas, which has experienced a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Vanilla Ice, best known for his 1990 hit “Ice, Ice Baby,” is scheduled to perform Friday at the Emerald Point Bar & Grill on the shore of Lake Travis in Austin.

Colour Me Badd, whose biggest hit was 1991’s “I Wanna Sex You Up” will perform Saturday.

The venue is not affected by Texas governor Greg Abbott’s executive order closing all bars in the state due to the COVID-19 surge because at least 51 percent of its sales come from food. It is, however, required to cut its 5,000 capacity in half and promote social distancing guidelines.

“We are taking necessary precautions to keep our guests and team members safe,” reads a message on the Emerald Point Bar & Grill’s Facebook page.

“We are looking forward to a fun and safe weekend with good friends, good food, and good music while celebrating America.”

Earlier this week, Vanilla Ice (aka Rob Van Winkle) posted to Instagram a throwback video clip of a concert crowd that he captioned: “I can’t wait to get back to this. The 90s were the best. We didn’t have coronavirus, or cell phones, or computers … We danced, we invented house parties in the 90s. The last of the great decades.”

Last weekend, country artists Chase Rice and Chris Janson took heat on social media after they performed concerts. Both shared video clips of crowds of fans who did not appear to be social distancing or wearing masks.
