40 Vigi DDO residents have died of COVID-19
The West Island regional health authority confirmed Friday that 40 of the residents at the CHSLD Vigi Dollard-des-Ormeaux have died of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
The CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal said of the 113 residents at the home, 60 have tested positive for the virus.
A spokesperson for the health authority said the situation inside the CHSLD has now stabilized.
One month ago it was far from stable, with residents accusing the home of neglect. Some told CTV Montreal they were left in soiled clothes and without food as staff deserted the home, similar to the situation at the Herron long term care home in Dorval.
On April 22, the local health authority dispatched a team of volunteers and nurses to replace the more than 100 staff members who had been staying home.
