Anjou councillor says she's not racist, just realistic
A councillor in Anjou says she's not racist, just realistic.
Lynne Shand posted a now-deleted Facebook message about to a trip to the emergency room on Friday because of a problem with an eye.
She said in French, quote, "I had to undergo an emergency opthamological exam."
That's followed by "Who was the opthamologist? A veiled woman... if it wasn't an emergency, I would have refused to be treated by her."
Shand also said she didn't criticize the doctors's competence, adding the care was "excellent."
Shand's comments included "the hijab is extremist just like white supremacists [are]."
Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante subsequently tweeted describing Shand's comments as "completely inappropriate."
