COVID outbreak at St. Mary's Hospital

ST MARY'S HOSPITAL

St. Mary's Hospital is dealing with a COVID outbreak, CJAD 800 has learned.

Six patients were infected in two separate outbreaks in two units in the hospital. The West Island CIUSSS - the regional health department responsible for St. Mary's- said they can't say where exactly for confidentiality reasons but did say they happened October 23 and 25. They also say fewer than five employees tested positive.

In a statement sent to CJAD 800, the CIUSSS said all patients on the affected floors have undergone testing and control measures are now in place to make sure the outbreak doesn't spread to other areas in the hospital.

Admissions to the affected units have been suspended and patients have been transferred to other units. A ban on visits to the units in question is in place.

Santa Cabrini Hospital in the east end reported an outbreak last week in its emergency room, which the public is being urged to avoid.
