Mayor Coderre wants to bring Amazon.com headquarters to Montreal
Seattle-based online retailing giant Amazon wants to find another North American city to build a second company headquarters — and mayor Denis Coderre has signalled his intention to make the case for Montreal to become that city.
The mayor did so in a pair of short tweets, in French and English.
Amazon announced Thursday that it was looking to build a second home, which it is calling HQ2. Amazon's founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement, “we expect HQ2 to be a full equal to our Seattle headquarters.”
The company says it is currently looking for proposals from local, provincial and state government leaders.
Amazon is looking to invest $5 billion into the new facility, which is expected to employ as many as 50,000 workers.
