A new report shows that the quality of swimming water in Montreal varies drastically from east to west. According to Fondation Rivières, 43.1% of the city’s shoreline is considered NOT safe for swimming, mainly due to high levels of bacteria like E. coli, often caused by untreated sewage discharge. It’s worse in the east end — and better in areas like Verdun and the West Island. André Bélanger, Executive Director and spokesperson for Fondation Rivières, the organization behind the detailed shoreline testing, spoke to Ken Connors.
