Montrealer finds small frog in her spinach
A Montreal woman got quite the jolt Tuesday morning when she started preparing her meals for the day.
The 26 year old tells Rouge FM she was making an omelette and was shocked to find a small, live frog when she opened her plastic container of Fresh Attitude spinach.
Lethicia Benedicto purchased the produce March 11 at the Super C in Boucherville near the Costco where she works, she says she returned it and following her complaint, store officials immediately removed the remaining products from the shelves.
In a statement, Metro Inc., which operates Super C stores, tells Bell Media this type of situation is very rare and isn't a food safety problem, adding the important thing is to notify the supplier.
«L'important c'est d'aviser le fournisseur, comme l'a fait la cliente. C'est très rare que ce genre de situation se produit. Ce n'est pas un problème de sécurité alimentaire.» -Geneviève Grégoire, Chef des communications chez Metro Inc.
Benedicto meantime, says she no longer intends to consume Attitude brand products and is worried about her health because she ate some of the spinach before noticing the frog.
The distributor, Vegpro International, says it's investigating and uses state of the art equipment to clean and package its products.
It intends to compensate Benedicto for her unsettling experience.
As for the frog, the young woman says she plans to keep it.
