Petition drive on to create poutine emoji

Montreal's Valentine hot dog chain is spearheading a push to have a poutine emoji available for your texting needs.

It has started an online petition on in the hopes that digital keyboard users can soon "virtually express their love" for the iconic Québécois dish.

"Right now, there is no poutine emoji. Nobody has yet applied for this one," the text of the petition reads. "In 2019, why would there be a sweet potato emoji, but no poutine?"

The Valentine chain says it has sent a formal request for a poutine emoji to the Unicode Consortium, the group responsible for selecting new emojis. It's also urging poutine lovers to make "a bold statement of love" by signing the petition.

"The future of Quebec cuisine depends on it. #poutineemoji" the petition's text says.

As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, 1,174 people have signed on to the petition.
