Police considering charge against Dorval homeowner over break-in confrontation
A Dorval homeowner is facing the prospect of an assault charge after he confronted a couple of men who broke into his home early Sunday morning.
The man told police he had heard a noise in his garage at around 5:20 a.m. and when he went to investigate he found two 19- year old men had broken into his home.
A police department spokesman says the homeowner called 9-1-1 and then picked up a weapon, which is believed to a be shovel, and struck one of the suspects in the head.
The pair fled with the homeowner in pursuit.
One suspect was found by police near the intersection of Carling and Pine Beach..
He had what was described as a non-life threatening head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The second suspect was arrested nearby.
Both suspects face charges related to the break-in, but the homeowner is under investigation and could be charged with assault with a weapon.
Police spokesperson Caroline Chevrefils told CJAD News that " You cannot assault somebody, if they are not hitting you."
The investigation remains ongoing.
