Record number of women elected to Quebec National Assembly

Not only was it a historic night for the CAQ Monday, but it was a big night for women in politics in Quebec.

Once all the votes were tallied and ridings had their declared winners, 51 women were elected to the National Assembly, making up 41 per cent of Quebec's new MNAs.

The previous record was 33 per cent, set in 2012.

Heading into Monday's vote there was a record number of female candidates to choose from, with women making up 375 of the 940 total candidates.

The CAQ lead the way Monday with 27 women elected, followed by 16 with the Liberals, five for Quebec Solidaire and three for the Parti Quebecois.
