Tour des Canadiens condo development suing city of Montreal over watermain break
The second phase of the Tour des Canadiens highrise condo project downtown near the Bell Centre isn't even finished yet but it says it's suffered damage from a big watermain break last spring - and it's suing the city of Montreal.
The Tour des Canadiens and Tour TDC Développements are suing the city of Montreal for almost $200,000, an estimate of the damages since they haven't done a final tally yet.
The lawsuit says that late last March, a watermain at the corner of De la Montagne et Saint-Antoine burst, sending water gushing into the street. It alleges that caused damage to the building under construction at the same corner, as well as to construction equipment nearby.
The lawsuit argues that since the watermain is under the responsibility of the city, it should be responsible for the damage, alleging it was negligent in checking the watermain network to avoid such pipe breaks.
The second phase of the luxury 54-floor highrise is part of a two billion dollar housing development near the Bell Centre.
