Sixty-six new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ottawa today, the fourth straight day with more than 60 new cases of novel coronavirus in Ottawa.

Ottawa Public Health also reported two new deaths in Ottawa on Thursday.

Since the first case of COVID-19 on March 11, there have been 4,388 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 289 deaths.

Seventeen people are currently being treated in an Ottawa hospital for COVID-19 related illnesses, including three in the intensive care unit.  The number of hospitalizations is down from 19 on Wednesday.

Health Minister Christine Elliott announced 538 new cases of COVID-19 across Ontario on Thursday. There are 229 new cases of COVID-19 in Toronto and 101 new cases in Peel Region.

There were 64 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Wednesday, and a record 105 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches said Wednesday that the number of cases in Ottawa is doubling every 10 to 12 days, and Ottawa could see 200 cases a day by mid-October unless people take steps to limit the spread of COVID-19.

COVID-19 cases across the region

Four new cases were reported Thursday in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit region.

Two new cases were confirmed in the Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington Public Health region.

There are four new cases of COVID-19 in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit.

One new case was confirmed in the Renfrew Country and District Health Unit region.

Active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa

Ottawa Public Health reports 677 active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Thursday, down from 685 cases on Wednesday.

A total of 3,422 cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa are considered resolved.

  • 0-9 years old: Five new cases (245 cases total)
  • 10-19 years-old: Nine new cases (398 cases total)

  • 40-49 years-old: Eight new cases (549 cases total)
  • 50-59 years-old: Two new cases (512 cases total)
  • 60-69-years-old: Three new cases (371 cases total)
  • 70-79 years-old: Three new cases (253 cases total)
  • 80-89 years-old: One new case (322 cases total)
  • 90+ years old: One new case (221 cases total)

Two unknown cases on Wednesday have been resolved.

A single laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19 in a resident or staff member of a long-term care home, retirement home or shelter triggers an outbreak response, according to Ottawa Public Health. In childcare settings, a single confirmed, symptomatic case in a staff member, home daycare provider, or child triggers an outbreak.

Under provincial guidelines, a COVID-19 outbreak in a school is defined as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff in a school with an epidemiological link, within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection in the school (including transportation and before or after school care).
