A traditional New Year's celebration from Kitchener city council went virtual this year.

The annual New Year's levee was held online on Sunday in order to follow pandemic protocols.

"Things weren't the same this year in the sense that we couldn't interact with the community live," said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. "Certainly through social media and other tools we've been hearing from folks over the holidays and in the New Year.

"This was an opportunity to celebrate 2021."

The event featured family friendly entertainment, musical performances, as well as the mayor and councilors sharing messages and reflecting on the past year.

The levee kicked off at noon and can be viewed on the City of Kitchener's YouTube channel.
