A large fire broke out at a garage/workshop in Innisfil early Monday morning, forcing nearby homes to be evacuated.
More than a dozen fire trucks were called to Ewart Street just after 5:30 a.m. Deputy Fire Chief Tim McCallum said when fire crews arrived, the fire was fully involved, and neighbouring houses were evacuated as crews battled the blaze. The garage collapsed shortly after fire crews arrived but there no injuries.
“The garage is a total loss,” said McCallum from the scene on Monday morning. “There is one house next door that has some outside damage to it, some broken windows, some siding damage, and another house that has some minor damage to the back,” he added.
There is no word on a cause yet, but investigators do not believe the fire was suspicious. Damage is estimated at about $200,000 dollars.
Fire crews remain at the scene putting out hot spots.
