OPP say they have arrested a Manitoulin Island man and charged him with arson in connection to two suspicious fires on Friday night.

Police say the fires involved two unoccupied residences in different towns near each other on the island.

Now, a 36-year-old man from Robinson Township has been charged with three counts of arson – damage to property.

The third charge relates to an alleged vehicle fire at an abandoned local gravel pit in September.

Police say the accused has been remanded pending a bail hearing in Gore Bay on March 18.
