VICTORIA - A longtime member of the legislature has returned to the B.C. Liberal caucus after being cleared of any wrongdoing over political investigations that were reviewed by the province's elections administrator.

Elections BC says Ben Stewart, who represents Kelowna West in the legislature, asked for advice from the chief elections officer on a political contribution to the Liberals that was reimbursed to the contributor by the party.

No other details about the contribution were released.

In a statement, Elections BC says its review found no provisions of the Elections Act were violated.

Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson says Stewart took the appropriate action by co-operating with Elections BC and has been welcomed back into the party's caucus at the legislature.

In the same news release, Stewart thanked Elections BC for its “thorough and timely” review.
