Police are investigating two separate stabbings in Waterloo Region on Wednesday
According to a release, officers responded to the area of Sunview Street, near University Avenue in Waterloo at around 12 p.m.
Three men attended local hospitals and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries prior to police arriving.
Initially, police reported that two men were taken to hospital, one of them with life-threatening injuries.
On Thursday morning, police explained the discrepancy in an email to CTV News.
“That was the information we were provided and believed at the time,” wrote WRPS Constable Ashley Dietrich.
“This investigation has been complex and challenging as all victims were taken to hospital prior to police arrival. After further investigation, police learned about the third victim.”
Officials now say that they believe that the suspects and victims are known to each other and this was a targeted incident.
There was an increased police presence in the area while they investigated.
Officials said there was also a stabbing on Charles Street East in Kitchener on Wednesday morning. In that incident, a 28-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
