Every year will be a little more “grand” for Mireille (Mimi) Roy of Wahnapitae - 25 grand, actually.

Roy matched all five main numbers to win a second prize of $25,000 a year for life with Daily Grand in the May 7 draw. She opted for the lump sum prize of $500,000.

A 32-year-old mother of four, Roy discovered her win while using the OLG Lottery App to check her ticket.

“I saw the ‘Big Winner’ message but don’t remember seeing the amount,” she said, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect her cheque. “I closed the app and restarted it, and saw the ‘Big Winner’ message again … I showed it to my partner, and we wanted to scream but the kids were still sleeping. I had to tell him not to!”

The winning ticket was purchased at Coniston Pharmacy on Amanda Street in Coniston.

The cashier plans to pay off some bills and buy a vehicle. She would also like to purchase a house and plans to put some money aside for her children’s future. In the meantime, she also wants to have some fun with her kids.

'This felt great"

“This felt great, and surprising too," Roy said. "I’ve won smaller amounts, but nothing this big. It feels like I can do a lot that I couldn’t before because of financial constraints. My life is changing for the better.”

Daily Grand is a national lottery game with a top prize of $1,000 a day for life for matching the five main numbers plus the Grand Number. The second prize is $25,000 a year for life for matching the five main numbers. DAILY GRAND is $3 per play and draws take place on Mondays and Thursdays.
