LU KALA is a singer songwriter from Toronto with a unique approach to pop music. She has been a singer all her life, but realized her songwriting potential in 2013 when she co-wrote a song with DVSN (Drake, Dj Khaled, Majid Jordan) and Stephen Kozmeniuk (Dua Lipa, Madonna, Lights). In 2014, the song appeared on Jennifer Hudson’s third studio album.
Today, LU continues to work diligently at perfecting her songwriting skills and building her career as an artist. Her work ethic, distinct sound and inventive songwriting have landed her in rooms with industry vets such as BabyFace, James Fauntleroy, and MarcLo.
LU’s debut single "DCMO (Don’t Count Me Out)" was released in the fall and has gained over 180k streams. It has been added to several official playlists including: Spotify’s It’s a Bop, Indie Pop Chillout, and New Music Friday Canada. It also appears on Apple Music’s Breaking Pop playlist, Pop Deluxe and Pure Pop Radio.
Shortly after the release of DCMO, LU was selected as the Grand Prize winner of the 6th annual RBC Emerging Musician Program and was invited to perform at the Canada’s Walk of Fame 20th anniversary gala.
DCMO is a song that demonstrates LU’s remarkable musical ability and solidifies her presence among those to watch in 2019.
