Nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards have been announced and leading the way with nine nods is SZA, who is up for Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
Victoria Monét, Phoebe Bridgers, and Serban Ghenea are all nominated for seven awards, while Jack Antonoff, Jon Batiste, boygenius, Brandy Clark, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift each have six.
Additionally, Taylor Swift has made history by becoming the first artist with seven nominations in the coveted Song of the Year category with “Anti-Hero.”
One major trend in 2024 is the overall domination of female artists. Only Jon Batiste scored nominations in the Record of the Year and Album of the Year categories.
“Seeing the women nominees this year, and the number of them, was not a surprise but it was something that made me happy,” Recording Academy CEO and President Harvey Mason jr. told The Associated Press. “Maybe somebody will love what I do one day, or maybe I have an opportunity to express myself or voice my thoughts like that person.”
Changes made to next year’s event include Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year as well as Best New Artist reduced back to eight nominees from ten, after the Recording Academy boosted the number in 2021 to “cast a wider net.” (Guess it didn’t work.) Three brand new categories will also be introduced for the first time: Best Pop Dance Recording, Best African Music Performance, and Best Alternative Jazz Album.
The nominations were announced by St. Vincent, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, Muni Long, Kim Petras, and Jon Bon Jovi, 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year.
The Grammy Awards will take place Sunday, February 4, 2023 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, CA.
