Sunday night's American Music Awards had a little bit of something for everyone.
While Canada's Shawn Mendes, The Weeknd and Alessia Cara came up empty, it was a good night for Drake and Justin Bieber. Check out our full coverage here.
Here are five highlights from the show:
Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd gave everything they had when they got on stage to perform.
Mendes’ voice cracked a few times during his “Treat You Better” and “Mercy” set but only because of the passion and intensity he was putting into the songs. In an age of lip-synching, it was refreshing to hear such raw vocals.
The Weeknd simply nailed his performance of “Starboy.” It was flawless and entertaining — especially when you consider most of it took place inside a metallic tube.

The Trump jokes by hosts Jay Pharaoh and Gigi Hadid fell flat but Green Day’s “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA” during their performance of “Bang Bang” was perfect.
Similarly on the mark was Idina Menzel’s jab at the thin-skinned president-elect over his attack on the cast of Broadway’s Hamilton.
"Us unsafe, scary theatre people won't be invited to the inauguration,” she noted. “I love you Hamilton!”
Drake won his first ever AMA -- and got to collect it from his former Degrassi co-star, Nina Dobrev. He also made a point of thanking his hometown Toronto and his parents.
Classy.
And, what better sequel to Taylor Swift’s treadmill wipe-out while rapping “Jumpman” by Drake and Future than Drake singing Swift’s “Bad Blood” during a gym workout.
The commercial, which premiered during the AMAs, once again showed our man Drake doesn’t take himself too seriously.

The standing ovation for Lady Gaga’s performance of “Million Reasons” was well-deserved.
Barefoot in a field of dreams, Gaga sang the heck out of the powerful song. It was simple and raw.

On stage to accept the Pop/Rock Female Artist award, Gomez used the opportunity to talk about her battle with depression.
"I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside," said the 24-year-old singer, whose AMAs appearance was her first since August.
"I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down," she said. "But I kept it too much together to where I let myself down. I had to stop.”
Gomez added: “I don't want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what's in [your hearts]. I'm not trying to get validation, nor do I need it any more.
"If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken.”
