The soundtrack to A Star Is Born tops the Billboard 200 albums chart this week – giving Lady Gaga her fifth No. 1 and actor Bradley Cooper his first ever.
According to Nielsen Music, the collection sold 231,000 equivalent album units in its first week, making it the biggest week for a soundtrack since Fifty Shades of Grey in 2015. A Star Is Born is already the third-biggest soundtrack of the year, behind The Greatest Showman and Black Panther: The Album.
A Star Is Born – the third remake of a 1937 film – has grossed $135 million U.S. worldwide since it opened Oct. 5. It stars Gaga as Ally and Cooper as a rock star struggling with substance abuse.
The soundtrack to 1976’s A Star Is Born, starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, spent six weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 and sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. The best-selling soundtrack album of all time remains 1992's The Bodyguard, which has sold more than 42 million copies.
A Star Is Born beat Trench, the new album from Twenty One Pilots, which debuted at No. 2. Albums by Lil Wayne, Lil Baby and Gunna, and Eric Church hold the other spots in the top five.
