AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys will compete on the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars, it was announced Thursday.
McLean was enrolled in dance classes as a young boy and studied ballet, jazz, tap, ballroom, salsa and merengue – but he insists he won't have an advantage.
"This is a little bit of a different style of dancing than what I used to do," he said on GMA. "I’ve been dancing since I was about 6 years old, but this is going to be a bit different. There's definitely no fox trot in the past 27 years, I can assure you that."
McLean's fellow Backstreet Boy Nick Carter placed second on Dancing With The Stars five years ago. "I reached out to Nick about four days ago ... and he both supported me as well as terrified me a little bit," said McLean.
"I'm going to do the best I can and hopefully take home that mirror ball."
The rest of the new season's cast will be unveiled next Wednesday and the premiere is set for Sept. 14.
