Alan Longmuir, a founding member of ‘70s band Bay City Rollers, died early Monday. He was 70.
“We are devastated to share the news that Alan has passed away peacefully surrounded by his family,” read a statement.
"He was an extraordinary man with an extraordinary heart. He brought so much love and kindness to everyone he met, and he leaves a huge hole in our family.”
In early June, Longmuir contracted an illness while on vacation in Mexico and spent three days in intensive care in a Cancun hospital. He returned to his native Scotland by air ambulance.
The Bay City Rollers, who disbanded in 1978, had several hits including “Saturday Night” and “Bye Bye Baby.”
In 1976, an estimated 65,000 fans packed Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square to catch a glimpse of the Bay City Rollers. Police pulled the plug after more than 400 female fans fainted.
Longmuir is survived by his wife of 20 years, Eileen, as well as son Jordan from his first marriage and stepsons Nik and Kyle.
