Alan Parsons Live Project keyboardist Tom Brooks was rushed to hospital Thursday night after falling ill during a concert in Salt Lake City.
“Tom managed to make it through all but 3 of the songs from the first set before the Salt Lake City EMTs arrived and safely transported him to the hospital, where he is currently in stable condition,” read a statement on Parsons’ official Facebook page on Friday. “He will be flown back to his hometown in California as soon as he is able to make the trek.”
According to the statement, 68-year-old Brooks was “suddenly afflicted” with “a serious illness.” No other details were provided.
The show went ahead without Brooks and a replacement keyboardist was being flown in from California for a concert on Friday night in Denver.
“We were saddened to see Tom helped off the stage,” read a comment from Ryan-Jennie Huntsman. Lucas Robertson wrote that it was “pretty scary seeing him helped off stage.”
In September, Parsons, 73, cancelled all but the Salt Lake City and Denver shows as he recovered from emergency spinal surgery in June. “Time will tell when I’ll be fit enough for a longer tour,” he said.
Brooks is a prolific producer, arranger, engineer and keyboardist who has worked with a long list of artists. He won a Latin Grammy in 2016 for Best Christian Album (Spanish Language) for his work on Marcos Vidal’s 25 Años.
Alan Parsons Project had Top 10 hits “Games People Play” and “Eye in the Sky” in Canada in the early ‘80s.
