Alberta’s The Royal Foundry has been named a Grand Prize Winner in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest – the only Canadian act to make the cut.
The Edmonton-based duo, made up of Jared and Bethany Salte, won in the Pop category for their song “Never Have Time.”
The prize package consists of over $8,000 U.S. in studio equipment and “Never Have Time” is now in the running for Song of the Year, which comes with a $20,000 cash prize.
Judges for this year’s competition included Fergie, Prince Royce, Red Hot Chill Peppers bassist Flea, Sean Paul, Sheila E, and Natasha Bedingfield.
The John Lennon Songwriting Contest is an international competition that was created in 1997.
