Alessia Cara, The Weeknd Among MTV VMAs Nominees

Alessia Cara, The Weeknd and Shawn Mendes are on the list of nominations for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, which were announced on Tuesday.

Cara and The Weekend are up for both Video of the Year and Best Direction (for “Scars to Your Beautiful” and “Reminder” respectively).

Cara also has noms for Best Dance Video (for her Zedd collaboration “Stay”), and Best Fight Against The System — a new category recognizing videos that “inspire viewers to stand up and fight injustice.”

The Weeknd is also nominated for Artist of the Year and his “Reminder” video is up for Best Art Direction and Best Editing. 

Shawn Mendes’ “Treat You Better” is up for Best Pop Video and Justin Bieber shows up in the Best Hip Hip Video for DJ Khaled’s “I’m the One,” which also features Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne.

All tolled, Kendrick Lamar dominates the nominations with eight. The VMAs will be handed out Aug. 27.
