Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson says it's unlikely fans will get to enjoy another tour by the Canadian band — but that doesn't mean Rush is finished.
"I would say that it's unlikely that we'll tour again as Rush," he said in a recent interview on Debatable. "Really, we toured for 41 years, and I have to say that first year off, I felt like I was grieving for my career and the band, but truly, 41 years of touring the way we touring, I shouldn't feel badly about that."
Lifeson previously said that the band "will be doing things together again" at some point, though it's not clear what such a collaboration might be.
The guitarist says he and frontman Geddy Lee are interested in playing music again with one another. And he is also strongly considering a solo album.
Lifeson says he's been struggling with his material.
"One day it's like, 'Yeah, this is exactly what I wanna do.' And then the next day it's like, 'This sucks. Forget it. I'm not doing this.' I love those songs, then I hate them, and then I love 'em again...It's a much more focused thing when it's the band."
Meanwhile, drummer Neil Peart, who was firm in his desire to retire from the stage in 2015, has largely been keeping to himself and concentrating on his family. Lifeson — who told the Canadian Press in 2015 that Peart suffers from “chronic tendonitis in his arms” — said the two haven't communicated in "quite a while."
Lifeson added: ”I'm not sure what Neil's doing these days. He’s on the West Coast. He's always got something going on."
