Alyssa Reid may want to consider recording a cover of "We Are Family."
The Canadian singer on Monday shared “a bit of a secret” with her Instagram followers: She recently discovered that the man who raised her is not her biological father.
“This began a search to find out more about myself and my genetics,” Reid, 25, wrote. “I went into this already having an amazing family, and just wanted to learn more about who I was.”
The “Alone Again” singer said that after doing an Ancestry test, she learned that had family living 25 minutes away from her. “With the help of a third cousin, I was able to find not only my biological father, but two beautiful sisters as well,” she explained. “I have found aunts and uncles, and more cousins than I can count!”
Reid admitted she was nervous about meeting her relatives but now feels “so much love and acceptance.”
She shared: “This is a pretty new journey for us all, and we are still getting to know each other, but I felt like this is now a huge, and positive, part of my life that I didn’t want to keep to myself anymore.
“I feel very lucky that the family I have found are so wonderful and are the missing piece in my life I didn’t even know I had.”
Reid released three studio albums between 2011 and 2015 and, last summer, dropped the EP Burnout. One of the Juno-nominated singer's biggest hits was the Virginia to Vegas collaboration, "We Are Stars."
