Andrew Ridgeley wishes he and George Michael could have given Wham! fans a farewell tour.
Now 37 years to the day that Wham! performed their final concert (also titled "The Final"), Ridgeley tells the BBC that he and his late bandmate should have made their farewell gig a proper tour. "I would have liked to tour The Final to be honest.
"I felt a final tour to say goodbye to our fans around the world would have been a generous gesture. I felt it was a courtesy to them to have done that. The least we could have done, to be honest with you. But I also understood [George's] essential ideology behind having just one show."
A total of 72,000 fans packed into Wembley Stadium on June 28, 1986 to witness the chart-topping pop duo play their last concert. Featuring Elton John and Duran Duran's Simon LeBon, the concert marked the end of the group's four-year run that included 30 million records sold and massive hits such as "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", "Everything She Wants" and "Careless Whisper."
Renewed interest in Wham! comes in anticipation of the group's forthcoming eponymous Netflix documentary, WHAM!, which drops on the streaming service July 5.
