Angela Lansbury declared this week that she is “thrilled to be part of reggae” after hearing the Chaka Demus & Pliers hit that shares the name of her former TV series.
Appearing on Q to talk about her long career on stage and screen, the 93-year-old star was played part of the 1992 track “Murder She Wrote.”
“That’s very funny,” she said. “Are they a group?
When host Tom Power explained that Chaka Demus & Pliers was a reggae duo, Lansbury said: “Oh, reggae. I’m thrilled to be part of reggae, of course.”
She added: “Wow! That’s great.”
For 12 seasons between 1984 and 1996, Lansbury starred on Murder, She Wrote as mystery writer Jessica Fletcher, who helped solve homicides in the tiny Maine town of Cabot Cove (evidently the murder capital of the U.S.).
Chaka Demus & Pliers released “Murder She Wrote” as a single in 1992 and included it on their 1993 album Tease Me. It’s about a woman with “a pretty face and bad character” who “every middle of the year … go have abortion.”
The song has been sampled by artists like Pitbull, Omarion and French Montana.
