Tom DeLonge announced Tuesday the resurrection of Angels & Airwaves, the band he created in 2005 when Blink-182 was on a break.
DeLonge, guitarist David Kennedy and drummer Ilan Rubin have released “Rebel Girl” as the first single from a forthcoming album and film project.
“Rebel Girl is a space-age love song that combines my enduring obsession for New Wave, pop punk and anthemic rock and roll music,” explained DeLonge, in a release.
“As some of you might’ve heard, I recently took a brief minute to start up an aerospace company, so you never know - I may play this song from a satellite deep in space, beamed toward everyone’s house viciously on repeat.”
It’s the first new music from A&A since the 2016 EP Chasing Shadows.
DeLonge also announced the band (with bassist Matt Rubano) will hit the road for the first time in seven years, starting Sept. 4 in Phoenix. There are no Canadian dates.
Since splitting from Blink-182 in 2015, DeLonge has focused on other projects. He is developing a series for U.S. cable channel TBS and is executive-producing a docs-series for The History Channel about UFOs.
“After my kids, music has and will always be the most important thing in my life,” the 43-year-old father of two said. “It’s given me everything – every opportunity and every relationship I have.
“There is no stronger art form than rock ‘n’ roll to deliver a galvanizing message and at the end of the day, change lives.”
