Apple+ has announced a new documentary series, John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial, narrated by Kiefer Sutherland.
The three-part series will offer a comprehensive investigation of the late Beatle’s tragic murder, as well as the conviction of Mark David Chapman, who confessed to shooting and killing Lennon outside of his New York apartment on December 8, 1980.
In a press release, Apple+ revealed the series will feature “exclusive eyewitness interviews and previously unseen crime scene photos” that will shed new light on the case.
John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial is described as “the most thoroughly researched examination of Lennon’s 1980 murder.” The production includes interviews with some of Lennon’s closest friends as well as Chapman’s defense lawyers, psychiatrists, detectives and prosecutors.
The series is produced for Apple TV+ by the BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning team at 72 Films, directed by Nick Holt (The Murder Trial, Responsible Child) and Rob Coldstream (Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain) with executive producers David Glover (9/11: One Day in America), Mark Raphael (Crime and Punishment) and Coldstream, alongside producers Simon Bunney and Louis Lee Ray.
No release date has been set for the series, however, the news of it arrives just as the Beatles are set to release their final song, “Now and Then,” (out November 2) which was finished by surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr using AI technology.
