Arcade Fire’s Win Butler took to Instagram late Tuesday to celebrate becoming a Canadian citizen.
(Old habits are hard to break, though: Butler didn’t use the Canadian spelling of “honoured.”)
The musician, who married Quebec-born Régine Chassagne (his Arcade Fire co-founder), in 2003, shared a photo of him posing with a ceremonial Mountie and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada minister Ahmed Hussen.
“I’ve lived in Montreal for half my life, so it feels very natural to have both passports now,” he captioned the pic, which shows Butler wearing denim-on-denim and his signature hat. "Had to wear the Canadian Tuxedo, and yes Mounties are real.”
Butler was born in California and grew up in Texas but studied at McGill University in Montreal, where he met Chassagne.
