Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler was happy to be in Vancouver this past weekend to attend the Juno Awards.
The U.S.-born singer for the Montreal band needs to spend at least 1,095 days in Canada as part of his bid to become a citizen.
“This counts as a day,” Butler told reporters.
The 37-year-old California native has been married to Canadian bandmate Régine Chassagne since 2003 but Arcade Fire’s busy schedule takes them around the world.
“Ironically, I would just have to not achieve any international success in order to become Canadian,” said Butler, who earlier accepted the International Achievement award at the Junos.
“I’m in line for my passport.”
Arcade Fire also won Album of the Year (for Everything Now) at the Junos.
