Montreal’s Arcade Fire marked the inauguration of America’s new president by releasing a song called “I Give You Power.”
The track, which features soul singer Mavis Staples, debuted last week on the Tidal streaming service.
Introducing the song on social media, Arcade Fire said “it’s never been more important that we stick together and take care of each other.”
Proceeds from the song, which was recorded last year at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, will go to the American Civil Liberties Union.

“I Give You Power” is the first new song from the band in two years — and the timing was not by accident.
“The song was made to come out now,” Win Butler told Apple Music’s Beats 1. “It’s easy to get sucked into sitting on the couch and checking your news feed and watching things on CNN, and we’re just musicians and the only thing we really have to offer is our music.
“For us it’s a feeling of solidarity—to not feel powerless and focus on what we can do as individuals and try to do our part.”
Although the roots of Arcade Fire are in Montreal — and most of its members are Canadian — Butler and his brother Will Butler were born in the U.S.
