The famous Isle of Wight Festival has announced their first headliners for the 2017 edition. Our genius indie-rock band, Arcade Fire, will be gracing the stage of the British Festival on June 10th!

Festival promoter, John Giddings seems proud to have booked them: "I’m so happy to have secured Arcade Fire as our first headliner,” he said in a statement. “David Bowie recommended them and I’ve been a fan ever since. Last year was an incredible year and I’m ready for us to come back even better in 2017."

Yes, you read right. David Bowie was a fan of Arcade Fire, and is the one who recommended them for the festival. The band had expressed their sadness after the legend's death: "David Bowie was one of the band’s earliest supporters and champions. He not only created the world that made it possible for our band to exist, he welcomed us into it with grace and warmth. We will take to the grave the moments we shared ... A true artist even in his passing, the world is more bright and mysterious because of him, and we will continue to shout prayers into the atmosphere he created.”

Bowie had appeared on their last album, Reflektor, and the band played a parade in his honour in New Orleans last winter along with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Will we have a new album to savour by the time they play the Isle of Wight Festival? Win Butler did hint there might be one out by next spring...
