Ariana Grande, Machine Gun Kelly, Nicki Minaj, and Kid Cudi are among the music stars who expressed concern for SNL star Pete Davidson’s well-being on Saturday via social media.
Davidson, whose engagement to Grande ended in October, posted a troubling message on Instagram early Saturday – and then deleted his account after being inundated with hateful comments.
“i really don’t want to be on this earth anymore. i’m doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don’t know how much longer i can last,” he wrote. “all i’ve ever tried to do was help people. just remember i told you so.”
According to The New York Times, the NYPD conducted a welfare check on Davidson at the SNL studio, where he was preparing for tonight’s episode.
Davidson has previously spoken out about his mental health struggles.
In tweets that have since been deleted, Grande said she wanted “everyone to be healthy and happy. so desperately” and said she was “downstairs and I’m not going anywhere if you need anyone or anything.”
Machine Gun Kelly tweeted: “im in the plane now on the way to see Pete. gonna make sure he’s good, i promise. can’t have my boy in the darkness like that.”
And Nicki Minaj urged someone to “go & give this man some love. My God.” The rapper added: “We can be so insensitive. God bless Kanye & Pete. Being flippant about mental illness speaks more about you than them. Stop saying the word love & live it. Love is an action.”
Cudi shared: “Thinkin about U Pete. Hit me back bro. I love you man. Im here.”
Canada's Shawn Mendes didn't mention Davidson by name but on Saturday afternoon tweeted a series of messages about love. "Love love love love," he tweeted. Then, "Love your people! Tell the people you love you REALLY love them. Do it. It’s impossible to be too kind or too loving."
He added: "Be aggressive with love!!!!!!! show it! Scream it! Feel it! Go nuts with it. Why not."
