The message behind Ariana Grande’s latest tattoo quickly became lost in translation.
In a since-deleted Instagram photo, the pop star showed off a pair of kanji symbols inked onto the palm of her left hand that she said spelled out “7 Rings” – the name of her latest hit single.
Indeed, 七 means “seven” and 輪 means “ring” – but combined they spell “shichirin,” a type of small charcoal grill.
The mistake resulted in Grande getting roasted (I would have gone with skewered - ed.) on social media.
The singer said the tattoo would likely not last forever because the skin on the palm “peels a ton.” Still, she returned to L.A. tattoo artist Kane Navasard to add symbols.
“Slightly better. RIP tiny charcoal grill. Miss u man. I actually really liked u.”
