A series of concerts to benefit bushfire relief efforts in Australia have been cancelled.
“It is with regret that the organizers of Sound Relief have decided not to proceed with concerts in March as originally planned,” read a statement. “Since announcing our intention to undertake Sound Relief 2020 the offer of assistance from International and Domestic artists, industry, media and suppliers has been second to none.
"However Sound Relief is a series of concert events that we don’t wish to stage lightly and after careful consideration, we believe proceeding with the concerts in March won’t produce the impactful result that we believe these events can - and should - have.”
Locations and specific dates for the Sound Relief concerts were never announced, but organizers had hoped to stage them on the March 7-9 weekend in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
Sound Relief concerts in 2009, featuring acts like Coldplay and Taylor Swift, took place in Sydney and Melbourne.
Benefit concert Fire Fight Australia, which includes Queen + Adam Lambert, Alice Cooper and Canada’s k.d. lang, is scheduled to take place Feb. 16 in Sydney.
